SDN DemoFest is a community building event, where international and local experts will discuss and demonstrate the latest technologies, trends and applications. It will also be an opportunity for potential users of SDN technology to meet and share experiences, building a local community.

The event will start at 9:30am with a keynote by Dan Pitt, Executive Director of the Open Networking Foundation (ONF). It will be followed by a brief overview of the activities of the SDN community in the region, and an introduction to the demonstrations for the day. After a short tea break, the following demonstrations with be showcased:

  • “Automated L2/L3 Interconnections to Bypass the Public Internet Using Console” by IIX
  • “FAUCET: SDN-based enterprise network”  by REANNZ
  • “Zodiac: The world’s smallest SDN switch” by Northbound Networks
  • “SDN for the home network” by NetworkSeer

SDN Hackathon Presentations – Commencing 2:00pm @ CSIRO/Data61

We are excited to organise our first SDN Hackathon in Australia. The goal is to demonstrate that it is now possible to build an interesting and useful SDN application in a single day by a motivated group of developers, using any open source platform of choice (including ONOS, Floodlight, OpenDayLight, FAUCET, Ryu). Watch 6-8 teams of developers tackle problems in core, enterprise, and home networks, and demonstrating their outcomes to the audience to compete for prizes. The schedule for the hackathon is:

  • Monday 4 April 10:00am – 12:00pm : Quick overview of rules, logistics and development environment (teams using the NoviFlow switches will meet at CSIRO/Data61, while teams working on the Zodiac will convene in room 343 at UNSW)
  • Monday 4 April 12:00pm – Coding commences
  • Tuesday 5 April 12:00pm – Coding stops
  • Tuesday 5 April 12:00pm – 2:00pm: Set up demo and presentation
  • Tuesday 5 April 2:00pm – 4:00pm: Demonstrations, judging, and award presentations

Rules

  • Application demos will be judged on a number of different criteria, most importantly – completeness, impact and innovation.
  • Prior to the demo each team will push their code to a github account to make it available publicly.
  • All the code is made public to ensure that no proprietary code written before the Hackathon is used.
  • Inclusion of code from other open source projects should be attributed as such during the demo.
  • The organizers will evaluate the hack and inform the judges of the completeness.
